Do not
train children to learn by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what
amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy
the peculiar bent of the genius of each. –Plato
Hi LaShaunda! I don't believe I've heard this quote from Plato before. What wise words! It is truly amazing how you can help a child change his/her behaviors by talking to them about things that interest them. Children are often much more intelligent than we think. As I've studied to become an early childhood teacher, I've learned that using force or harshness never works. I wish all adults everywhere would feel the same way!
Thanks for always reading my post and giving your input on them. I'm glad that you found my blog post interesting and informative. I wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors.
I love this quote by Plato I believe that you should let children use their imagination and encourage them to explore the world. I feel that if more people actually read this quote and think about what it says then they wouldn't pressure children so much.
I am happy you shared this quote! I have never heard it until I read your post. Activities and lessons centered around the interest of children is how we as educators can engage them in learning. The quote is right about using harshness to engage a child. Using force only pushes the child further away. Thanks again for posting that quote!
